The TEFL market in this beautiful green country had been growing steadily over the past twenty years. Private, international and language schools all hire foreign teachers all year round. Because of EU regulations allowing people from EU member states to work in other EU countries much more easily, demand has declined as people learn the language by submerging themselves in the culture instead. But even so there’s still a demand in Poland itself. It is important to have a TEFL certificate first though.
Semesters begin in October so it’s worth arriving a month beforehand and visiting English language schools (which can be found all over the country. Just remember to present yourself in a professional manner! Many employers also hire private tutors for their workers, and another good bet is to find work at a holiday language camp. These short-term courses always require TEFL teachers for a month or so, and pay around £450. They also normally provide food and accommodation. Although it doesn’t sound like much money, the cost of living in Poland is relatively inexpensive and rent will be about 1/3 of that!
